Are Gateway Laptops Any Good

In the world of laptops there is the constant debate about which laptop is better than the other. Most of the time, the arguments have more to do with marketing campaigns than they do with the functionality of the machines in question. The best answer for most people will be “It Depends”.

While this might sound like a cop-out answer, it is the truth. If you are an experienced laptop user and have a good budget and want to use the machines for certain things like writing, photo or video editing, or presentations then you would choose a certain type of machine. If however, you are an average person that simply wants a portable computer to use for email, Facebook, general photo editing, playing online games and watching movies, then the answer might be a bit different. The best way to answer the question is to simply layout where each brand has it strengths and weaknesses.

In the area of price the HP laptops are going to be generally less expensive. Toshiba laptops do cost more, but as you will see there is a reason for that. HP doesn’t have very good customer service. If you are concerned with being able to get results if you have problems with your HP laptop, then you might want to go with the Toshiba. This being said, HP builds a very sturdy and well performing machine. Toshiba laptops are filled with high quality components, one reason for the increased price. Their customer service is outstanding, they really stand behind their products in a big way.

When it comes to performance it is all about the components used to build the laptop. Toshiba is hands down better in this category. They build a laptop that will last for a long time and probably won’t have any need for service with regular use, and in many cases regular abuse. HP uses good components but not quite as good as Toshiba, so they don’t really measure up here. Both computers come bundled with different programs and this usually has more to do with the retail outlet you purchase from than the manufacturer. Don’t let this be a deciding factor in choosing your laptop.

The bottom line for these two laptops is going to come to your preference and price range. An HP laptop will function well and will do what you ask it to, so will Toshiba. The Toshiba will cost you more up front, but chances are it will much longer without fail than the HP will.

1A poor investment
By Aimee Lorenz
I wrote a review the day it arrived, but now I’m revising it. PLEASE READ!

It arrived on time, and it worked great, but IT BROKE AFTER ITS FIRST USE! The round metal tube on the adapter head that plugs into the laptop broke off the adapter head after I unplugged it from my laptop. In fact, the tube tip was still stuck in my laptop port!

The reason why I gave the instruction manual 3 out of 5 stars is because a couple of the the black and white pictures were hard to understand. The contrast was way too dark, making it difficult to see which part goes where.
As for portability, it’s a bit on the heavy, clunky size. Measurements for the black bar: 5 1/2″ (14 cm) X 2 1/4″ (5 1/2 cm) X 1 1/4″ (2 3/4 cm). Weight of black bar: 9 1/4 oz. (265 g).

In short: DO NOT BUY THIS!!!

I ended up going to Best Buy and bought the ROCKETFISH TRAVEL LAPTOP AC POWER ADAPTER KIT for $40. Yes, it’s more expensive, but it comes with 10 adapter heads, works great, and it’s much more slim and lightweight than this one.

1Piece of Junk
By Joseph Todaro
This item is a piece of junk! The cord it came with didn’t even work, I had to use my own cord. Then after a couple weeks, it started smoking and the power unit itself started melting. I would return it, but the cost to return it makes it not worth returning. Terrible terrible item.

3Makes a great temporary charger
By M. Morales
It does bend easily,I will give people that one.If you drop it a lot or step on it, it will break or bend.Caution is always needed with everything(specially this thing, since the metal part of the adapter is very cheap and the price is cheap too).naturally you know that the quality is NOT going to be the same. The adapters could be numbered or labeled to show which one is which, but it really isnt a huge issue. It doesn’t take hours to find the correct adapter.I recommend this product IF you need a temporary charger(3-6 months maybe?). EX. a college student who is tight on money and wants a quick replacement till they get their paycheck.DON’T expect this to be an actual replacement of your original charger. You will end up spending more money replacing these than getting an original charger at your local computer store.

Dell Laptop Computer Reviews

Toshiba, Dell and HP are some of the best brands in the world when it comes to laptops. They offer great value for your money and excellent performance to boot. Here is a quick comparison in several categories between these three laptop giants.

Price: In this category, HP and Dell are neck in neck in competitiveness. Although both brands offer great value for your money, Dell seems to be a little cheaper in its overall price. Toshiba is a little more expensive than these two brands probably due to its extensive R&D. Among these three brands, Dell laptops are the cheapest where they also offer a high level of customization.

Durability: As someone who has used all three brands before, Toshiba is the clear winner in this category. There is something about Toshiba laptops that not only makes it last really long but also last long flawlessly. My oldest Toshiba machine is about 6 years old and I don’t remember the last time I have ever had the need to send it back to the service center. Among these three brands HP would come in second while Dell is in a close third (from my years of collecting customer feedback).

Features & Performance:HP is the winner of this category. Probably due to the fact that HP tries to create entertainment-centric laptops, their machines sometimes comes with an extraordinarily amount of bells and whistles. Toshiba comes in second where it strives to offer the latest essential features in its laptop. What Dell laptops lack in extra features is made up by their amazing customer service. Dell is known for providing one of the best services around.

Overall:All these three laptop brands have strengths that will cater for many niches of the market. Consumers who are looking for a laptop that would last for long time with solid performance should look no further than a Toshiba laptop. Those who are on a budget and appreciate good service should get Dell laptop. Those who love a feature-filled and well-priced laptop should consider a HP machine.

5Total wrist relief
By NYC Seller
I’m studying for the bar exam and have been having major wrist issues since I spend most of my days hunched over my laptop (a 13″ MacBook), typing up outlines. I knew I needed some type of wrist cushion to modify the way my I typed, so I went ahead and purchased this product. Great decision. The wrist rest arches your wrist, so that your fingers come down over the top of the keyboard, instead of having your wrist lie flat on the laptop itself (which is a very unnatural position). It has made typing much more comfortable, and has alleviated my wrist pain completely. Goodbye, carpal tunnel.. hello comfort!

1NOT Mac Friendly
By Elysse Flores
The description says it works for Macs, but that’s really misleading. The window in the center is far too small. I have a MacBook Pro, without a button, just a touchpad. So I thought it wouldn’t be a problem. However, using the wrist rest, I found that I kept constantly accidently clicking on the screen. I ended up having to cut the connecting strips, turning it into two separate pads. Now it works ok, but I wish I had just bought two separate pads to begin with, since now the pads have jagged edges from using scissors on them. Very ugly. :(

5student approved, no more RSIs
By M. K. Ilagan
As a student, I spend HOURS in front of my laptop at a time. I was developing RSI’s after studying intensely for a previous exam, so I did some research online, read product reviews, and eventually came across this (as well as the “Latosta Portable Laptop/Notebook Stand”). Used together, I’ve had no more wrist or forearm strains, and I’m noticing a greater flow of blood to the skin to bottom of my wrists (which were getting darker and calloused). Very much recommended!!!

One more thing, I just wanted to qualify their statement that this works with “ALL LAPTOP BRANDS & MODELS”–my laptop is a Lenovo X61T, and I had to modify my intelligels wrist rest in order so that I could access the mouse buttons properly. I just cut out the thin part, which is supposed to border the top of your touchpad, quite easily actually with a normal pair of scissors.
